Re-install your sound card driver.

Well listing the ovious checks would come in handy...

I would say your first bet to look is in the device manager. Start->Settings->Control Pannel->performance and matinece->System

Once you have that open click on the tab uptop that says hardware and then click on device manager

When you are in the device manager you will see a hole bunch of listed icons with either + or - signs beside of them. If you see any - signs and that particular item is expanded then you have a driver issue and you need go to the manufactures web sight and down load the proper drivers.

For what you are looking for will be under "sound,video, and game controlers". The particular peice of hard ware will also have a little yellow mark though it to tell there is driver conflicts.
