It is a fact, that falling from a height can cause the heart to seize. It is considered to be a safety mechanism for the body to shut down before it gets hurt. Just in the same way that sometimes in a dream, you fall from a height, you wake up with a pound in your heart.
The theory is proven by people who are drunk when they fall and seem to get up unscathed, because the body was more relaxed.

I never heard that, more then likely depending upon where they jumped from, they died due to the impact when they hit the ground, not mention the fact of the smoke intake and the heavy burns.

Some may have died from fright on the way down, if they had weak hearts, the majority hit the ground living

I have heard this before as well but don't believe it. Some would possibly die from heart failure. Even those that were still living and conscious probably felt little pain. They had the endorphins rushing through their body.......like the "fight or flight" scenario. Not much pain involved if any.

No, that is a common myth about falling.
There have been plenty of people who fell from tall heights with all expectation of death end up surviving. They did not die from heart attacks because of the fall.
Here is one article about a woman who survived a fall from 33,000 feet (over 6 miles up).

I read a report that it was highly not likely and that most were alive on impact since the fall was about 8 seconds or so....visualizing that just breaks my heart

Actually, I have heard that they may have passed out, but not died of heart failure.

Heart failure simply won't kill you that fast however they may have passed out from an effect called syncope.

It probably would have been better to die beofre you hit the ground, a little more peaceful. Sad though....

I don't believe that theory, since you'll only be going about 120mph. What about sky divers or people who sky dive for the first time.
