this article is pretty interesting about live bearers

http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0003-0147(197906)113%3A6%3C905%3ATEOLIL%3E2.0.CO%3B2-J

says that; Analysis of data from over 1,000 species of lizards and snakes reveal that live-bearing has evolved recently at least 38 times, and an additional 60 species show the intermediate evolutionary stages (egg retention).

To mike d. Do a little research on viviparous reptiles and you'll learn that you are wrong. Reptiles are all cold-blooded and have scales, but they do -not- all lay eggs.

Boas, pit vipers, and several species of water snakes all give live birth, as do a few species of lizard, one that I can think of off the top of my head being the armadillo lizard. Anyway, there you go.
