I take a sauna, then swim underwater. It's very quiet, and the body naturally slows its heart underwater. I'll have to renew my membership.
Sometimes I sit on the edge of a visual cliff to exaggerate it. The top of a building can work well for this, but the classic is to hike to an escarpment, sit down and dangle your legs while taking in the distant view. The controlled danger tends to take your mind off petty worries.

I go on-line and the real world disappears. There's nothing like staring at a box for hours on end to release pent up stress. What's funny is that my cat doesn't have the capability to understand what I'm doing, all she sees is me sitting here staring occasionally moving my fingers to type. Cats never get to destress unless they're chasing their tails, but at least their tail is real.

Home. It took me a long time to realize that my home should be my castle. I don't think most women feel that way because domestic duties are very demanding. Mine certainly were. However, many problems are solved by thinking ahead and conditioning your family or housemates, and by realizing that interruptors like the telephone and doorbell are your servants, not the other way around.

When the weather's nice, I love to take long walks. They provide exercise and a chance to unwind mentally. When the weather's less than good, It helps to find some good music to listen to and take a bath.

I like to get in my car (alone) and just drive aimlessly. I just listen to the radio and take a drive in the county or whereever I end up. Keeps me sane.
