And is being called a 'fox' or being told you're 'foxy' a compliment?

Why are things so different with our close cousins dogs then?

Calling someone a 'bi tch' or a 'dog' is insulting. Wonder how these associations got made.

Not complaining like, just wondering..

I myself wouldn't mind being called a Vixen, or called a Fox or Foxy. And yes, I would be offended if I were called a bi tch or a dog. I guess the difference comes from the animals themselves. Fox's had been seen as sly, and slick, and often powerful throughout the traditions of many cultures. While dogs have been seen as some sort of 'lower class' in the canine world when it comes to comparing them to foxes (and sometimes wolves as well). Then again, many people have used the term, "You sly fox!" as an insult towards someone being caniving and sneaky.

I went out dancing with my fiance one night. An acquaintance of my fiance's came over & I was introduced. My fiance said to me, "this is the guy who said you were hot". The guy said, "I never said you were hot. I said you were beautiful". I was crushed and embarrassed. While it is true that it is a compliment to be told you are beautiful, when a man calls a woman hot, or says she is a fox, he is not only saying she is beautiful, but that she is desirable. When the friend told me that he didn't say I was hot, but that I was beautiful, it told me that he thought I was beautiful, but not desirable. Though I am devoted to my fiance and would never be with anyone else, being told by another man that I am not desirable was a blow to my pride. My fiance later talked to the guy about it when I wasn't with him, because he saw I was bugged about it. The guy thought he was paying me a huge compliment because he felt that beautiful was a greater compliment than hot (or foxy). A woman friend of his overheard the conversation and she slapped the guy on the arm and told him "you told her she was beautiful, but that you didn't think she was hot? What is the matter with you? You don't tell a woman that!". I guess men and women perceive things differently. All I can say is that it is a compliment to tell a woman she is pretty or beautiful. To tell her she is hot or a fox does not in any way say that she looks cheap or easy. It says that she is a step beyond beautiful - she is desirable.
