I think that once you have your daughter, you will love her much more than you hated the other Elizabeth, so it won't matter. If you like that name (which I personally do) then you should go ahead and name your child that. However, I would say that I don't like the nickname Betty, since that name seems like a name for someone older (much older) and it has kind of gone out of style nowadays. Just my thoughts....

Why not name your daughter Elizabeth and call her Liz, Lizzie, Liza, Eliza, Beth, or just plain Elizabeth! Betty as a nickname for Elizabeth is pretty uncommon, so I would just call her Elizabeth - that way, you get the name you want, and you don't have to think about this Betty/Elizabeth person!

If you choose to name your daughter Elizabeth, which I did, you will find that you will be so involved in her life and watching her grow up that you will probably forget all about Elizabeth from high school. You will also find that she will be given her own nickname by her friends at school. I did not want my daughter being called Liz, and now she is 19 and that is all anyone calls her, including myself..... Name your baby whatever you feel comfortable with, and don't think about people from the past while doing it !!!!

Ah the irony.
I had this same problem & strangely enough, with the same name.
My husband loves the name & persuaded me to name our daughter "Elisabeth" Grace. We changed the spelling to make it different from the awful Elizabeth I knew in high school. We have nicknamed her "Beth".
The name Elizabeth is very versatile. You have so many nicknames to choose from. Even varying it a little will mentally differentiate your little one from the boyfriend-stealer.
In the end this is how I decided to view it: my child is beautiful, special & a gift from God. I don't see the high school girl anymore. She happened to be a bad person with a good name. If you love the name, use it. From now on it will only bring beautiful memories & you'll forget (in time) the connection with the girl who marred it for you. :-)

Name her Elizabeth if you really like the name but call her Beth.Do not name her Eliazabeth if you are still hung up on hating that girl and cannot get past it. When you say your child's name it should be with pleasure, not bad memories. Congrats.

Name her Elizabeth and to take your mind of that girl you hate, dont give her the same nick name. You can call her Lizzy- thats cute. Or maybe even Liz, but Lizzy is cuter!

Don't call the kid Betty whatever you do. Call her Liz if you want to stick with something close to Elizabeth. Or have Elizabeth be her middle name.

I vote for naming her Elizabeth. I agree that the minute she is born, you will only associate her name with your lovely little girl. Also, I think Ellie is a really sweet nick name for Elizabeth.

Name her Elizabeth, but maybe don't call her Betty. Chances are, she wouldn't appreciate being called Betty either.
You could call her Liz, Lizzi, or Beth, or even Tibby.
