ciminal minds whats with the swastakas?

lastest on criminal minds when the black guy was killing black girl (excuse me i no im not going to spell this right but) and the swastakas were spray painted on the faces. what was the point of the it?

My girls was right... the serial killer did it to make the cops think it was a hate crime... this was said on the show.

I think it was meant to show anti-seminism and white supremacy, like in a hate crime, especially against German Jews I believe, since Hitler's reign.

I think it was to throw off the Cops. Im not sure though. I mean it made no sense to me either!
