My sister in-law is trying for a baby. She is 8 days post ovulation she isn't due to start her period until next wednesday. She says she has had a brownish discharge once and bright blood once only when she wiped yesturday. She hasn't had any at all today. What do you think it could mean? Maybe implantation?

It could be "implantation bleeding," yes.

Bleeding in the luteal phase (post-ovulation) of your cycle is more frequently thought to be the result of a secondary estrogen surge; consequently there's plenty of doctors who will tell you there's no such thing as implantation spotting (in that the spotting isn't caused by implantation). But regardless of what causes it to happen, it is sometimes experienced by women around the time implantation would be occurring.

But spotting during the luteal phase can happen for other reasons -- and for no (known) reason at all. There can be a minor cervical irritation, for example, or just a bit of endometrium shedding, or a brief hormonal imbalance (eg a secondary estrogen surge). So spotting can happen during the luteal phase, even if it's never happened before, and not be due to implantation or pregnancy.

In other words: hopefully your sister in law is pregnant, but it's too soon to tell and spotting, simply put, doesn't necessarily mean anything.

May her period not arrive next Wednesday, and may an hpt have two bright lines. :)

If it is only 8 days post ovulation I would say yes, it could very well be implantation bleeding. Does she track basal body temp? If so have her check and make sure it is still in her high range. Tell her Good Luck. I would wait a few days and take an early PG test.

If she is 8 dpo it is very possible it could be implantation bleeding which usually occurs 6-10 dpo...doesnt usually last a long time.. she may not see it again.. Good Luck~~

no, too early for that. she will have to wait and see if she gets her period which is when implantation bleeding would occur.
