In my opinion, your MIS is not sure how to setup a wireless router properly, and what configuration options to choose for securing it. I would suggest for him/her to read up on different wireless encryptions and set up the wireless for you. Here's the instructions on how to do it, in case he/she doesn't know how. The encyrption we use is WPA. It is fairly secure, which depends on the size of your key. Read the article, and you'll undersand what is going on.

What kind of router do you have? I can help you set up a WEP or WPA key encryption on there so that it's more secure. What they mean is that just anyone can use your internet if they have a computer with a wireless card.

use WPSK 2 not the rest use MAC filtering turn of UPnP purely enable those IP handle which you already know are the structures at your residence/ on your community , workstation's wii, 360 etc use a mix of numbers letters decrease and uper case you will get a key gen on line you will then could characteristic the main to all of the structures on your community so suitable it down asign a PASWORD and a USERNAME to the router DON not use the default settings it is in simple terms the beginning up goolge router risk-free practices for extra configurations x

Wireless Security is an oxymoron. Even with WEP, WAP, or any other security, wireless is still very unsecure (if you know how to hack it). It's actually quite easy to do. Physical cabling is indeed much more secure than wireless.

From a corporate perspective, wireless security is much weaker. It is also more troublesome to set up and support. Some access points offer better security than others.

It could be, depending on the kind of work that you do, or the machines that you have.

If you are doing defense work, say, that'd be true, but then again you wouldn't be posting here.

Some older machines and/or cards can't support the stronger types of encryption/security, so if you have a bunch of those, they may need to be wired differently.

So I don't know whether it's because of the machines you're running, or the work you do, but it could be true.
