Lois Duncan wrote a lot of good ones in the 1970's & 1980's, "Don't Look Behind You," "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Down a Dark Hall," "Stranger With My Face," "Daughters of Eve," "Locked in Time," "Gallows Hill," etc. Many, if not all, of these have a supernatural element to them, as well.
Jade Green by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor is excellent.
Caroline B. Cooney wrote some mysteries, I believe -- I'll check on titles and get back to you. Try the "Losing Christina" series: Fog, Snow, and Fire.
Also, check on books by Kathryn Reiss -- I enjoyed "Dreadful Sorry," "Paperquake," "Paint by Magic," "Time Windows," and "Pale Phoenix."
Margaret Peterson Haddix's book "Turnabout" may not be quite up to the teenage level, but it's really good.

Sue Grafton's ABC Mysteries... A is for Alibi, etc.
Laurie King's Mary Russel books are fantastic. Start with the Beekeeper's Apprentice
Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon books are good. Her protagonist is a National Park Ranger, and the mysteries are set in national parks.
The original Sherlock Holmes books by Conan Doyle and the original Agatha Christie books are good, classic mysteries.
Daphne DuMaurier is a great gothic writer. Her books aren't traditional mysteries with detectives, but they all have a mysterious element surrounding the plot.
These are all books written for adults, but don't have any content that is inappropriate for reasonable teenagers.

I love Lois Duncan's books--she's my favorite mystery author. My favorites are: I Know What You Did Last Summer, Don't Look Behind You, Down a Dark Hall, Summer of Fear, and Locked in Time. I haven't read all of her books, but I've enjoyed every one that I have read, so I would definitely reccomend them.
I also like the authors Caroline B. Cooney and Mary Higgins Clark. Mary Higgins Clark's books are usually found in the adult section, not the young adult, but they're appropriate and pretty easy to read.
