I am an Athiest. I fully believe Darwin's theory on Evolution as nothing else makes sense to me. Alot of Christians tell me that there are so many witnesses to the birth and death of Christ that there is enough evidence to prove he existed. However, is it not true that there is also written documents of the existance of UFOs? Why do we not accept these documents as fact considering millions of people believe documents of the same incredibility written 2000 years ago.

Lets all think about the way most people need to find order in chaos. Many people forget that we have chaos built into ourselves as we are not divine we are no more than a virus with shoes. So why do we need god well unlike many creatures we know we are going to die this is very awkward and upsetting for the weak once monkey mind so we make a solution by inventing a after life now death is no longer upsetting. speaking on U F O`s if u believe in god there would be no lifeless planets as why create pointless planets that do nothing this is silly but is you accept life can be anywhere then life elsewhere is a fact maybe we have been visited yet as a man of logic i am awaiting the evidence tho i recommend the following downloads richard dawkins root of all evil on religion and Ufo_the_Greatest_Story_Ever_Denied_Xvid

There's nothing like mixing religion and Voodoo "science" to obfuscate an issue.

Were there witnesses to the fact that Christ was a living person. YES!! From the apostles to Roman Generals, many testified that Christ was a living person. But was he the son of God? WHO KNOWS? Is it true that documents exist, and witnesses testifying that UFO's exist? Again YES!! But there is not one shred of Physical evidence to support those claims.

AND what does one have to do with the other? You're "logic" is flawed.

To answer your question.. Do I think religion was created to bring morality to an otherwise uncivilized world?

NO!! The post historic world has always been civilized. Regardless of all the wars and suffering, I believe man is basically good. If not, if mankind was basically evil in his nature, he would have become extinct millenia ago. AND back to those wars, I previously mentioned... How many were fought in the name of religion?? So much for your morality question.

The existence of UFOs doesn't make people see their lives in a brighter and more meaningful light. Religion does. Morality can exist independent of religion and simply serve the purpose of bringing order to society. But people want their lives to mean something. So instead of obeying morals just because they help society function, they want those morals to be handed down by a higher power. Where the problem comes into play is when people have different gods with different morals and they conflict trying to prove one is right. When you base your belief in the unseen, there is no room for humility.

It doesn't make sense to me why my heart still beats after doing it 1,482,192,567 times, and yet it does and I am still here.

The scientists say that the sunbeam that travels about 8 minutes to reach the earth started out about a million years ago bouncing out and around in the core of the sun. I don't truly understand that but the sun comes from someplace and it feels great on my face.

Religion as an endeavor of humans into an organization mostly strays from the underlying spirituality of thinking.......WOW everything comes from something...and humans don't truly understand or control the Universe (as far as we can know it).

If you think things are here accidentally or at random...that's okay.

I am constantly stunned at the beauty of the world and feel as though there is a higher purpose for my actions than my religion (Methodist) and myself.

People seek to understand, know or prove a thing to be true in order for it to be true. That is the Scientific method. Sometimes you just feel God

As Ella K says, religion came about to explain the unexplainable.

Ethics and morality existed before 'modern' religions and came about separately. The Ancient Greeks were quite 'civilised' but this was not because of their religious beliefs. Ethical behaviour and religion were just things members of society practiced.

It is only in more recent times that the two have become specifically intertwined as man's spiritual beliefs have developed the idea of a more 'personal' god who either approved or disapproved of one's behaviour.

This suited those with influence within the religious community. It became possible to differentiate between 'us' and 'them' on the basis of belief and behaviour.

So no, I don't think religion was invented to bring morality to the world. In fact I don't think it was 'invented' at all, it just developed.

As to the rest of your question about why people believe one thing over another, well, that's another matter entirely!

Thank you for asking.

I don't really see what UFO's and Christianity have to do with each other. Darwin's theory of evolution has already been disproven. Ask your top evolutionists if you don't believe me.
Belief in evolution is based on belief in a theory, which by it's very nature is open to change and even to being overthrown--and that is in terms of science, not religion.

For Christianity you have to go back to the Hebrew nation and to the laws given the Hebrews in the practice of their life and their religion. And the question you have to ask is why were these laws given--not just for worship, but for cleansing from sin, for staying healthy, and for dealing with legal issues.

The answer is that the law showed man his inability to keep
it perfectly. It did also show man what good behavior was, and it showed him the propensity of his heart to stray from it, even if he kept it.

The ground for this kind of belief is different from that for evolution, because it is belief founded on revelation and worked out in history.

Man didn't start out with religion. He started out with a beautiful and unblemished relationship with God, and then threw it away.

All the works of God related in the Bible are about bringing man back into the beautiful relationship he had at the beginning, through his Son, Jesus, the Messiah.

I believe Darwins theory too. People/prophets were deluded. Religion began with Akenartem the Egyptian king. He decreed that the sun and moon no longer reacted to humans so there must be a God. He then made his people worship this God in the sky. Moses took the idea to Israel and religion was 'born' there is no such God, it is man conceived. There were many prophets in Jesus' time, not just Jesus but because he was the only one crucified, he is revered. Since, the 'bigbugs' caught on to the fact you could keep the peasants down with religion, they then controlled, so you get....I am rich because God says so, you are poor because God says so. There is nothing more dangerous than Islam whereby hands/feet are cut off because God says so. How backward is that? There is no God but I do believe there is something, but we control ourselves.

No, religion was not created to bring morality to an uncivilized world.
I am certain the Jesus Christ was indeed a man as were most of
the other people , places, things and events in the bible except
in the sense that they have been slanted & presented & exaggerated to reflect and support God and his activity & influence here on earth...
I am also an athiest...

Religion was created and evolved as means to explain unexplainable at the time.
Sadly, we can explain most things that concern us now, yet still people insist on believing that a man was created by God, when we have scientific proof on how Earth itself was created.

Heres my question why do you atheists follow the law and avoid things like murder and breaking the law if the law was created and based on a supreme being. why not steal, cheat, kill and what not...why ..because of your conscience and it is morally wrong. morality is spiritual and spirituality means god..if your atheist and don't believe in spirituality then why do you do the right thing instead of the wrong thing...because its morals and morals stand for the natural law given by god. therefore your just contradictng yourself.
