My Pearl Gourami has been suffering a bit lately, she has been under the weather for a couple of weeks. She had white spot which now seems to of cleared but i have just noticed that one of her eyes has clouded over, it is virtually white and it is enlarged, also on the same side she has lost all colour around that area apart from a pink colouring, naturally she is a dark brown. I have now removed her from the tank, it is worth treating? does anybody know what it could be? This fish just seems to be always sick

None of my other fish seem to be infected, they are quite active.

sounds like cloudy eye -- its a bacteria that attacks your fishes eyes and makes them cloudy. i use maracyn and maracyn2 in combination to treat it just about anything bacterial.

You can try to treat her, but that sounds like a pretty bad infection. She need to be in a tank by herself and treat as follows:

Remove any carbon from the filter and raise the temperature to 84-85 F Add 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons.

Treat with Furanace or Marycn for at least 10 days as directed on the package.

Do a 25% water change between each dose of medication.

This MAY save the fish, but may not as well. Bad infections such as that one are difficult to treat.

Best of luck!

hi yaff have you put any salt in the aquarium? a lot of tropical fish live on the edge of fresh /sea water salt is a natural infection treatment. ask at your pet shop for amont to put in your tank The fish that is diseased could be treated by adding it to salted water for a miute or two then place it back in clean water of the same temperature keep doing this until you see any improvement no more than once a day though i have saved some fish this way ,not all though good luck

You might want to try an anti-biotic like tetracycline. I have it at Petco.
