i just paid 85.00 for front brakes on my 88 honda, was that a fair price. My mechanic seems like a nice guy. I also need to struts to be installed in the front, he said they are about 65 each, making parts 130 and he would charge me 90 for labor total of 220 to have them installed.

Good price on brakes, even better quote on struts -- you're lucky to get out for under $500.00 for struts on a Japanese car.

From many years of experience of installing my own brakes and also paying to have it done, you paid a fair price. Could you have had it done cheaper? Maybe. Would it have been as good quality in workmanship? Maybe not. Remember you get what you pay for. If you do quality work you deserve adequate pay. Don't mess around with something that can protect your life or the life of someone riding with you. You were treated fairly.

A set of pads would have cost you around $30, so the labor to do the job was around $55. Seems pretty reasonable. Sounds like you've found a good mechanic.
