Well first off you have the exchange rate between the pound and the dollar backwards. If something cost 2 pounds, like in your example, you would be spending 4 US dollars. Your money only has only half as much power in England as it would in the USA. As for Germany they belong to the European Union. They have all switched over to the Euro which fluxuates but on average every US dollar will get you about 80 Euro cents. So once again you are loseing strength from what your used to. Now on how much money to bring.... remember that every thousand dollars is only eight hunderd euros if your lucky...... Sit down restaurants can be steap but on average about 15-25 Euros per person. Also keep in mind there are no free refills and a 0.5L Soda cost about 2.75 Euro or like $3.30. Merchandise has a 19% tax so if a price looks high, which most will, its because this tax is already added in there. There are tricks and ways around everything but on a short vacation its hard to get out cheap. My wife and I have been in Germany about three years now and if you have any specific questions go ahead and email me, derrickjablonski@yahoo.com .

Have you slept the past 5 years? Germany uses the Euro currency since 2002...

Germany is quite inexpensive and cheap, especially food, eating, dining, etc. Only the gas prices are higher as in the U.S., and they are even higher in the UK!

The actual & daily exchange rates can be found here:
http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=1&from=USD&to=EUR
€ 1 is at $ 1,31 at the moment (and you get € 0.76 for $ 1), as for 2/18/07

I am a German myself and live in Germany...

Well, let's see. Tonight my husband and I spent 29 euros on dinner. Breakfast is usually complimentary if you are staying in a gasthof (guest house) or hotel. I would say about 5-10 euros for lunch for one person. Gasthofs are much cheaper per night than hotels. I spent 22 euro per night at the last one I stayed in. You are probably going to have to figure in a rental car and gas as well. I rented a car for 3 days and it was 134 euro. Hope this helps.

Germany uses Euro's now -
As far as how much money you take really depends on what you plan to do - eating.. sight seeing - hotel/motel costs.
