If you go to an OB/GYN to get birth control pills, they will probably want to do the pap smear. You might be able to get them through a general practitioner without the exam, but they will probably recommend you see an OB/GYN. Since you are not sexually active, if your first test was clear they may not require you to take another for a couple of years. It is recommended that any woman over the age of 21 have a pap smear at least every 3 years. This helps to identify any early sign of cervical cancer and other health problems via the pap smear and routine pelvic exams. If you are uncomfortable with the procedure, try seeing a female physician. It's better to go through a little embarrassment and have the test now rather than find out about a serious problem when it's too late.

You should be having a pap smear every year just to be sure you do not have cancer.Although cancer in one so young is rare it is a good preventative treatment. You do not have to be sexually active to get cancer.
If you want to be on birth control most doctors are going to make you have a yearly pap smear to give you a prescription for the pills. It is also to check to make you are not having problems.

yes, you do need to get a pap smear before going on birth control regardless of if you are sexually active or not. Pap smears are not just for STD's. They are also used for detecting cancer and other health problems that women can get. It is so important to get one once a year starting when puberty starts. You need to take care of yourself girl!!

You really should have a pap smear before and while you are on birth control, and before and after you're sexually active. This is safer, and if you want to have a trusting Doc look around and have an appointment where you can talk to her/him.
You do have to have an examination before you get on any type of birth control.

That "stranger" is a trained professional. You may as well be saying that you don't want the bus driver to operate the bus or the server to wait your table.
Yes you need to have a pelvic exam in order to get birth control pills. In fact, whether your are or are not a virgin, a pelvic exam should be a part of your physical exam. It can save your life. A pap smear is a part of a pelvic exam.
If you have this fear or discomfort now, it's not going to get any better when you want to engage in partner sex.

No. My niece got put on birth control when she was like 14. They didn't give her a pap test but then when she turned 16 the doctors refused to anymore without one. She was scared and didn't want anybody looking down there and they didn't care...no pap no birthcontrol pills simple as that. They need to check for other things too like cervical dysplasia not just for std's. One of my best friends and I both got diagnosed with dysplasia when we were in our very early 20's. 95% of doctors will not prescribe bc w/out a pap...and trust me dear...I wouldn't trust any doctor that would prescribe you birth control without one.

I didn't need to get one to get my pills. I just go to a clinic and they ask do you get smears done, I say yes, and they just write me a prescription. They can't force you to have one. And you can't get a pap smear on your period. At least that's what my doctor told me.

Being a virgin has nothing to do with needing to get a pap smear.
Getting tested can prevent cancer & that's worth a few minutes of being uncomfortable.
Think how many people will be "down there" if you contract cancer....go have the test done.

you are supposed to get yourself checked once a year as soon as you turn 18, or whenever you are sexually active (which ever comes first)
so yes you still need to get one!
