I would like to know the general concensus among people about the political claim that Iran is our enemy and that we must take military action against a country which we can not prove has done anything more than defend its borders, very much like we would do in America.

As recently as 2001 the democratically elected moderate government of Iran was reaching out to the U.S. to normalize relations.

Bush pretty much spat in their faces, then came the axis of evil speech in early 2002. After that, the Iranian moderates got crushed in elections as it became apparent the U.S. had no interest in being reasonable and the fundamentalists gained in power.

We created this nightmare.

We started creating this nightmare back in 1953 when the CIA overthrew the previous democratically elected government of Iran and installed the tyrant murdering Shah. The crime of the previous government? Not Islamic terrorism. No, it merely intended to nationalize Iran's oil industry - which would have harmed U.S. and British oil interests. No wonder many Iranians came to hate our guts, and ultimately rebelled against the Shah in 1979.

As a veteran myself, I can say without a doubt America and it's FULL military might could turn Iran, or any country for that matter into a smoldering heap. Someone mentioned the word "unleashed". Here Lieth the problem. This country has not fought a war to win it since World War II. By this I mean, total and complete annihilation of the enemy. By that I mean, you launch every bomber in our arsenal and turn Tehran, Baghdad, or where ever into an ashtray, then you come in, clean up the mess, install the government, and live happily ever after. It worked with Germany and Japan, so WTF??? Problem is you have too many people in this country who even after 9/11 still don't get it and never will. And there is just enough of them to keep this country divided and off course. Until we come together as a nation united for a cause than we as a nation, regardless of our military might, are doomed. Our military is useless unless you are going to use it to it's fullest capabilities. Furthermore, it is also useless if we are going to continue to let political correctness determine every move we make in battle. We can't bomb a bunch of ragheads with a ton of weapons because they are hiding in a Mosque??? I'm sorry, here's a quarter, call someone who gives a f__k!!!

So protecting your boaders include:
-sending weapons to Muslim terrorists in Iraq killing our troops.
-funding Muslim terrorists attacks into Isreal
-supporting Muslim terrorists killing elected leader in other countries
-wanting to wipe a nation off the face of the map

btw: Bush hasn't call for war with Iran. It is only the liberals who keep talking about it.

I do believe the majority of people of Iran don't want to be in the sites of America.
They like to get rid of their leader but they are watching what goes on in Iraq. They are watching us back away when the going gets tough lead by the democrate charge. So how sure are they we are going to back up a revolution in Iran.
Knowing after a few soldiers die we run with our tail between our legs.

According to Steven R. Hurst of the Associated Press, in an article dated Sunday, February 11, 2007:

"BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. military officials on Sunday accused the highest levels of the Iranian leadership of arming Shiite militants in Iraq with sophisticated armor-piercing roadside bombs that have killed more than 170 American forces."

If the government of Iran is directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of 170 Americans, I think it is safe to say they have decided that we are their enemies, and that makes them ours, right?
