It differs from state to state and is a tough law to enforce unless the department of children and families/social services checks each house in the evening. Children of the opposite sex are not allowed to share a room in many states. Unless someone turns you in you have really nothing to worry about, but if for some reason you have a boy and girl and an agency is called , and you are in a two bedroom house, you will be asked to either partition the room or move. In Florida if you are a single female parent and you have a boy he needs to have his own room by the age of 1 a single female parent with a girl can share a room until the age of 5. So yes those laws do exist, check with you local agency.

There may not be a law but if you get your children taken away and try to get them back then two children of different sexes over age 5 cannot share a room.

I am not sure about the age maybe 10 or 12, but I think it is illegal for children of different sexes to be left in a room alone after 10 at night, it sounds daft but it comes from all the abuse every one seems to get these days, When I was 10 years old it was 4 to a bed 2 up and 2 down , 3boys and a girl and we never even thought of any thing that you see today, it was good fun

I think it depends on the state. I would assume it would be 5. My children have separate rooms , I am a divorced mom of 2 and one on the way. My children are 15 and 6. I know the state frowns about it if they know it.
I am not a big fan of Child protective services. I do not think they do their job. They dont do enough about abuse/neglect. (Illinois). I guess they have to step in sometimes because some parents dont use common sense.
Im a divorced mom and my daughter even though she has her own room ends up in my bed 99% of the time before morning.

I am unaware of any such law anywhere in the United States. If anyone can point me to a jurisdiction with such a law I would be interested in seeing it.
ADD: I note that I still have seen no citation to any law in any jurisdiction which regulates who can, and who cannot, share a room. I would be astounded if any such law exists.

In the UK most local councils will consider you overcrowded if you have at least one child over the age of 13 sharing with an opposite sex child. If youre in a council property they will rehouse you to a bigger place. I dont think its a law though.

I don't think it is illegal at any age, anymore than it was illegal for Michael Jackson to share his bed with children.
It's a scandal!
I mean, two-thirds of the world's population live and sleep in a single room, and it shouldn't be allowed.
Whatever next.....eating meals together?

The age of 5 years old for the oldest one. I wasn't able to find this on the Internet except with forum boards like this one. But I know that is the age that CPS starts asking questions.
