The ER doctors said the hand doctor would probably repair the finger with a steel pin. Called hand doctor for an appointment. Earliest he can see me is two weeks. Is it okay to let a broken finger, that probably will need a steel pin, go for 14 days?

The only thing waiting 14 days will do is delaying when you get the use of your finger back. The ER Doc set the finger and that is all that should/needed to be done right away. Waiting a couple weeks to have surgery (i.e. pin inserted) is no big deal! Actually waiting might be best because the finger may repair itself saving you a surgery.

You get to realise how bloody clumsy people are if you have to attend the finger clinic at your local hospital. Both men and women with a smattering of children sit in a long queue waiting for attention and holding up the offending digit. The clever ones sit with the digit in a pot of water trying to ease off the old dressing before that ginger headed nurse with no feeling for humanity rips it off to the sound of a grown man squealing....

Call the emergency room and ask for a referral...talk to your own doctor & discuss situation. Don't just wait.....without medical advice. You may be wise to find another hand specialist.
