I get on the internet with dial up, cox cable and also
with a Verizon air card. If I go to a web site several times
in one day and disconnect and reconnect to the internet
each time, will the web site see a different IP address each
time?

No...only if you change your ISP.

Yes and No :)

If you are connecting through a Dial-Up connection, then: Yes, your IP will change each time you disconnect and reconnects.

If you are conencted through a DSL, ADSL then it's the decision of your ISP (based on their configurations).. some ISPs gives a Fixed (Permament) IP addresses (usually for the companies) but for the home users, your IP will change dynamically evertime your connects to the internet.

You should always disconnect and turn your PC off when you are done working online... Having a fixed IP is not safe as you will be an easy target for Hackers. Therefore, you should have a Firwall installed on your PC as well as an Anti-Virus.

Here's a quick way for checkting your IP address if you are running Ms Windows XP:

Go to Start -> Run, then type CMD and hit enter.. a black window will show up, type IPCONFIG and hit enter and your current IP address will show up!

Experiment with this, disconnect and reconnet again and check your IP, you will then know whether your IP address is Dynamic or Fixed :)

Good Luck!

The answer is yes, it's probably a different IP address each time you log on.

A static IP address is a number (in the form of a dotted quad) that is assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider (ISP) to be its permanent address on the Internet. Computers use IP addresses to locate and talk to each other on the Internet, much the same way people use phone numbers to locate and talk to one another on the telephone.

It would be simple if every computer that connects to the Internet could have its own static (permanent) IP number, but when the Internet was first conceived, the architects didn't foresee the need for an unlimited number of IP addresses. Consequently, there are not enough IP numbers to go around.

To get around that problem, many Internet service providers limit the number of static IP addresses they allocate, and economize on the remaining number of IP addresses they possess by temporarily assigning an IP address to a requesting Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) computer from a pool of IP addresses. The temporary IP address is called a dynamic IP address.

Requesting DHCP computers receive a dynamic IP address (think temporary phone number) for the duration of that Internet session or for some other specified amount of time. Once the user disconnects from the Internet, their dynamic IP address goes back into the IP address pool so it can be assigned to another user. Even if the user reconnects immediately, odds are they will not be assigned the same IP address from the pool.

To keep the telephone telephone analogy going, using a dynamic IP address is similar to using a pay phone. Unless there is a reason to receive a call, the user does not care what number he or she is calling from.

IP address for computers are permanent they don't change. What ever internet connection you use they will show you the one IP address only. If you use internet in your mobile the IP address changes

No, your internet recognizes you through your IP adress. If it changes, it wouldn't let you log on.
