I know that I used to do drugs cause there was this gaping hole inside of me that I used drugs to fill up. I wasn't secure with who I was and I thought that people would like me more if I was on drugs because I became more sociable. It's a mental thing more than anything else. Some drug addicts are so far into their addiction that they feel like they don't have the choice not to use drugs anymore. Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, remorse, sadness, all led up to my using drugs. I used more drugs to cover up the feelings that I was experiencing. I hope that this makes some sense, seeing how I'm a recovering drug addict.

Because they are troubled in their lives and have no other outlet or nothing else or nobody else to turn to. It makes them feel better. It helps them to forget about the pain. People often have a troubled past that they are trying to forget or cover up and they use drugs to do so. And people that are insecure with themselves, insecure with who they are or low-self esteem tend to hide behind drugs; since the drugs will make them feel "better" for at least the time that they are high.
Or they are honestly just bored and really have nothing better to do, that's what 1 person told me. It's unfortunate.
The happy people would be the ones who smoke pot ...and they are happy because they smoke pot. :)

peace

I think the number one reason for people doing drugs is peer pressure (hey, everyone's doing it!). The second biggest reason, which is probably gaining on the first, is that people are unhappy with something in their lives and they just want to forget about it or escape from it, even for a little while, and it seems that drugs are becoming more and more readily available so more people are doing them.

Because they're so much fun, I've used with people from all walks of life. Some people like to escape reality, some just like to relax and clear their heads. Drug use is not a problem, drug addiction is and I think people often mix these two up.

There are only two innate reasons for taking drugs, to feel good or to feel better. There are some other alternative reasons, but they all lead back to these two. For example: to relieve pain, to be socially accepted, to remove hunger, to increase performance(athletic or psychological), or to enhance the senses. The list really goes on, but they all point back to feeling good or better.

At first it was to try to forget about all the pedophiles I fought off as a child when my mother was too drunk to notice. Then I became and addict.

Today, I have a choice. I don't have to live that way anymore. Thank you, Jesus.

btw, i know who you are.

Well...correct me if I'm wrong, but if you know something is bad for you OR can kill you it would in fact be 'stupid' to do it. With that aside it probably starts as a peer pressure thing. I know I smoked pot cause my friends did it. It wasn't necessarily because I wanted to be 'cool' its just cause everyone else was doing it. I think after a person does a drug, they see what it can do and that is when they start 'self medicating' themselves with it.

Most likely curiousity, because most people say they're bad for you, but the ones who really did try it say it's the best feeling in the world, so to find out what it really is, we try it out for ourselves

Broken homes, a bad childhood, curiosity, peer pressure, rebellion, stress, to fit in or be cool and, of course, prescription!
