I've been with my boyfriend for a year. I told him exaclty how I felt about him drinking / getting drunk. He respected that.

Maybe like 6 months after we started dating, he'd tell me he had a drink. I was lenient and was just happy he atleast told me and didn't hide it. Ok, he can have a drink once in a while. I can't control every aspect of his life.

He even told me recently that he had a drink with his friends. He didn't get drunk. But he did drive under the influence. Well technically if you have a sip of ANY alcohol beverage and you drive, it's UNDER THE INFLUENCE. I freaked out but told him I trust him not to do anything stupid.

Now he's talking about drinking this weekend... maybe getting drunk. I hesitated and told him I'm not gonna have fun when people are drinking.

Am I being too weird about this? I feel like I've been lenient enough. I don't like him drinking but I let it go anyways. I'm afraid he's gonna get drunk one of these days and do something stupid.

Good choice! I feel the same way about my fiance. You aren't freaking out, its called CARING about someone and not wanting anything bad to happen to them =) . Dont push him TOO far on it or he'll feel like you're being motherly...so if he MUST drink, go with him. You might not have fun- but if you really love him you'll make sure he doesnt get arrested or a DUI. And in time he'll mature and understand that its unacceptable. Or you could do what I do and just lay down the law..hahaha =).

Well, I'm not sure how old you are, and that definately makes a difference in how important this is. I don't think that having one drink is bad, at all, it won't do anything to you. Just having a sip of an alcoholic beverage and driving doesn't mean that it is under the influence, it's not. Driving under the influence is when you're impaired and have decreased reaction time, etc. As long as he is being responsible with his drinking, I don't think it should be a problem. You certainly don't have to drink if you don't choose to, but freaking out at him for it isn't going to do much good if he's just going to do it anyway, it could be harmful to your relationship.

You can drive after drinking ONE glass. It's not illegal and one glass leaves you in all of your senses.

I wouldn't be too worried about him drinking a glass or even two for the pleasure of it. I'd be worried about him getting drunk.

Tell him you don't mind him drinking one glass of wine at dinner, but that drinking to get drunk is a whole other story.

If he ignores you, break up...

I'd keep an eye on him. People get into fights when they are drunk. And stay away from him when he's drunk, he might try to get in your pants
