I am doing a research project about how technology affects socialisation in society. Is it possible to be a virtual friend and not have any face to face contact? Is this friendship as important to you as friends with whom you meet up and hang out with?

I moved to another country by myself so many of my friends i keep in contact via internet/email its great.

I also met a few people online that we both had common interests. Now we talk all the time.

I love this technology

in answer to your last question. I also need people to hang out with. So i like both.

I always talk about the negative effects from having Virtual Friends.. or even talking to your Real friends through messaging services most of the time. Talking to someone (face to face) has a different taste.. there is what we call a "Body Language", "Facial Expressions" and "Voice Tone".. all of these things helps in strengthen the relation with the person you are talking to. Where text messages, emails and instant messages are "Senseless".. and most of the time people misunderstood each other (because it's based on your best judgment and on the writing skills of the sender)... and the whole meaning of the message might get upside down just because of a typo :) Best luck with your project!

Defenitely, it is possible to meet someone online, and be friends withouth knowing what they look like. It's the same as if you were hanging out with them. Most of the time you guys talk online, and joke. Online friendship can become really important. I met a guy and i never knew what he looked like. He was a really great guy and well, we kept in touch for many years. It's like real life. Sometimes you meet friends which last, and sometimes you meet friends that go away. But yeah, they become important in life.

Contact from my friends always come from the internet or text messaging. I think that this friendship could be important but i prefer hanging out with the friends. It is just so more personal.

yeah! i met a guy on here as a matter of fact. i helped him out w/ a problem he had - this was way back in the beginning of oct. we still email each other all the time even though he already resolved his problem. we're really great friends! we've never really met either bc he lives in L.A. n i live in northeren N.Y. but we've seen pic of each other (just to be able to put a face to a name kind of thing) the friendship i have with him is really important to me we help each other with new problems and are just there for each other to listen and give our support. I count him in with some of my best friends that i see every day.

hope i helped you w/ ur project! good luck with it!

I have some e-pals and i keep in touch with them through Internet.
I think ,keeping such relationships depends on both sides.
there's no need to have face2face connection.
but you should share your ideas and hopes with them ,at least you should have sth in common with them.
