Genetics determine the limit to how tall you can grow, but to reach the full potential you have to have good nutrition. For example, the tribe of pygmies who were all thought to be just very short people, when they started getting proper nutrition, they all started growing to normal heights.

Not necessarily - I was born a very average baby, but grew up into a very tall adult (6'1"). The same for my sister - she was somewhere around 19" at birth (on the shorter side), and she's over 6'3" now. There are ways to predict how tall/short you will be, but I think that's done when the child is more like two years old, not at birth.

No that would make no sense maybe you meant to ask if height was determined at conception?
In which case yes it is but your height may be affected if you eat too much or too little nutrients, how active you were and whether you were seriously ill

you can't determine height until the child has an actual charted growth pattern- this would be at the earliest about age 5 or 6...

I think you are asking whether how big a child will ultimately grow is predetermined? Then yes, a child's genetic makeup directs how tall he or she will grow. But nutrition plays an important role in reaching that full potential, as well as overall childhood health. Certain tumors, for example, may cause abnormal growth, and poor nutrition can stunt it.

When babies are born they measure them. For instance my daughter and son were both 21 inches long. They just used a tape measure. Is this what you are looking for?
