I was just wondering if it would be okay to get the ear wax removed at hospital's every six months be okay? I had some ear wax removed a couple days ago and the doctor told me that I should go in every 6 months to get them cleaned out and I was wondering if it would be a good idea? Would anyone know if it would be safer seeing this doctor again or go and get something at the store and remove the wax myself every so often?

Also, it did hurt my ears when the doctor tried to clean out my ears, and my left ear did bleed a little and I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to go back and see the doctor again or not - that is why I am asking this question.

I have that problem. the best way to remove it for me. go to the drug store and get some ear wax softener and put in your ears mornig and night for about 3 days. Then get one of those bulbs and fill it with warm water and squrit it in your ears from the sides not straight in and not hard after about 3 squirts a big nasty blob of ear wax comes out and you feel much better. I do it about every 6 months. Works for me

Its okay to get your ear wax removed by a physician every few months - but there's no reason (unless you've got an issue I'm not aware of) not to try something over the counter first. There are drops you can buy, or the ear cones mentioned above - that might work well enough for you. Also, make sure you don't stick anything in your ear, like a cotton swab, which can just serve to pack down the wax.

Debrox is the best solution for ear wax, but it might require more than one application. Debrox does contain peroxide, so those recommending peroxide aren't too far off, but peroxide alone is too drying for the ears and may cause them to itch excessively--and then you'll be digging at them with a q-tip or bobby pin and really hurt yourself. My ex and all of my kids have always had nasty nasty wax buildup. :-( Do this before you go to bed. Lay on your side with that ear up. Fill the whole darn ear with debrox. (Forget the five drop thing. It sounds like you have a lot of wax.) Try to go to sleep while it's bubbling and you're laying on your side. If that's not possible, don't sweat it, just lay like that as long as possible. You may have to do this 3-4 nights to get it all out. You want to do it when you can spend a lot of time in one position so that the medicine stays in contact with the wax so it can dissolve it. It doesn't do any good if you just leave it for a couple of minutes.

First, you should not have ear tubes or other perforation.

If you have dark brown ear wax, hydrogen peroxide will dissolve it quite well. Put a few drops in one ear, lay on your side for several minutes, then repeat on the opposite ear. Then, using warm water and a rubber bulb ear syringe, gently irrigate the ears until the wax is removed. Repeat as needed.

If you have light flaky ear wax, the above won't work well. However, you are less likely to have your ear canals plug up. If they do, you could try some of the OTC wax removal products, or a beeswax cone. Or, put a few drops of Colase (a stool softener!) in each ear, laying on the side as above. Flush with warm water. You might have to use the Colase for several days before success.

i think it would be okay if you go and see your doctor but to save you some money you can go and buy beeswax's ear cone. you might be able to find it at a local drug store. it's a long tube that you stick in you ear and light the end and after a few min. it sucks all the ear wax's out.

The ears have hairs that are supposed to propel the waxy liquid out but apparently yours aren't working proper, They have to do ear syringing every after a spell of six months, this gives the hairs the chance to do their job failure to which you go to the doctor for syringing after six months.
Continuous cleaning with ear buds just wares off the hairs and makes the sitiuation more worse.
My advice; follow the doctors prescription

If your doctor told you to do it... you probably should do it.
