I'm not sure of your budgets ..... but i expect the kids will enjoy a split with half the time in a camp site, and half the time in a hotel.
Try the Italian National Tourism website and also have a fossick through the pictures and deals associated with hotels and pensions in the area.

I would recommend using for a camp site Lago Majore or Lago Garda. They have cheaper lodgings and more camp sites and you still can tour all 3 lakes etc. At the Garda there is more action for the kids too.

i'd say Lake Garda (this variety of captivating place) yet Lake Como isn't much less staggering. Come bypass by ability of Venice too =P (sorry had to declare that... i think of all people could as quickly as in a existence) Ciao!

I can recommend going to Milano as a day trip since its very close, about 30min train ride I believe. :)
