i have 2 goldfishes alone in a 20 gal tank chasing eachother for about 1 week now.... about how long would it take for the female to lay its eggs (in days)

they are both comets 3 and a half inches, had them for 4 years

It depends on a lot of things. How old are they now? If they are still very young, then she will need to reach adulthood before she can begin to produce eggs.
What kind of fish are they? You can get away with keeping 2 fancy goldfish in a 20 gallon tank, but not kois, comets or commons. Those are too big for such a small tank and they will not live long enough to breed.
If they are male and female, healthy, adults and fancies, then the female could produce eggs any time now. She just needs a godo diet and cool, clean water (so be sure to test for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates), and she should produce eggs.
