Yellow Pages ads work, but only for certain categories. In most cases you don't need to pay extra for the adspace, since your company name and address and possibly what you offer is already there. The extra ad lets you really narrow your business field right down to the specific products and maybe prices. But a better bet would be to have a website, and have YP link to it so that it drives traffic for ya. Also with a website you will get traffic from Google, increasing your internet exposure customers. And last but not least, if someone asks what you do, just tell him go to yourlandscapingcompany.ca, easy to remember and it sticks in peoples hands
Another business directory for canada, so to be upgraded with a new look.

Since most of the businesses out there have websites, yes online yellow pages advertising does work, but also go to your local Chamber of Commerce and/or Better Business Bureau and advertise in their directories, because you can usually get a good customer base there.
Good luck.

First off, you should make sure your business is listed and listed correctly in online directory sites. Check out MerchantCircle.com, they'll point out all the local directory sites and show you how you're listed on those sites. It's free and you can also build out your business page for free too, by blogging, uploading pictures, building online coupons.
