That is just her opinion. I bet there are plenty of people who would disagree with her.

There are two most likely explanations here.

The first one is that she was blatently trying to offend you, she was being callous and catty and wanted to make you feel less than ideal for some reason or another.

The second explanation is that she is socially inept, which means she lacks social skills and has no idea how to communicate with people. She probably would not have seen anything wrong with her comment, nor understand why it would be considered offensive. People like this often come across as rude and nasty, but you have to understand they are so unaware of their own appaulling behaviour that they don't seem to get why people would question their motives or think they were being callous.

Either way, you should not let it bother you. One person's opinion means very little in the grand scheme of things. Just be confident with yourself and that is all that matters.

Take care : )

This lady need etiquette classes, and an intense course in good manners. Who is she to determine which of you is the beauty. Beauty is as beauty does, and beauty, darling, is absolutely in the eye of the beholder. Don't be offended by one person's uncaring remark, Be sorry for her poor judgment. Another person viewing the same graduation would single you out as the real beauty. Go with your best features; accentuate them, wear a happy smile, and you will reflect true beauty inside and outside.

That is pretty rude. Did she know you were listening? I would be offended. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure someone thinks you are the most beautiful woman in the world.

Like everyone said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This lady was way out of line though, very poor etiquette. I would be offended too if I did not ask her for her opinion!!

Why do you care what some random human thinks of you? Sure, we all have that want to fit in and be perfect. But, guess what, not everyone has the same definition of beauty.

Get to know your own beauty, appreciate it... and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

How rude, I'd sure be pissed if someone said that about me. Don't listen to that dumb *** lady, I'm sure you are beautiful and that's just a dumb lady's opinion anyway, someone else could totally disagree with her!

Well that would hurt my feelings but I would get over it. You didn't choose how you look. Just be happy for your friend that she got such a complement. That has happened to me too.

Yes. But at least you have better sense than to say something so declasse. She must have been the hired help.
