There's a whole series of "the Science of" books availible at any local book store.

Since those things haven't happened (...yet?), there are no "facts" describing what would happen if they did, only speculation. Anyone considering any of those scenarios will come up with their own opinion on what might happen, and the only way to tell whose opinion might actually turn out to be fact would be for the situation to occur.

I am not sure there are any references for what we would really do in these types of situations.

However, if you are a writer and are looking for information for a book, amazon.com has a ton of books on writing science fiction and on science, paranormal, and technology you could draw "realistic" information from.
