They won't breed in a 10 gallon tank for the simple fact that they will never survive long enough to. Comet goldfish are POND fish for a reason. They will easily grow longer than your 10 gallon tank. They do not belong in home aquaria. You likely got them as very young fish; and long before they will be big enough to breed in your 10 gallon tank they will die.

Please return the comets to a petstore or give them to someone who has a pond.

If you want to breed fish, your 10 gallon tank is much better suited to livebearers. This means guppies, endlers and platies (mollies and swordtails too, but those are a little too big for a 10 gallon tank). These fish are very easy to care for, all you will need in a heater and some aquarium salt (they like to have about 1 heating tbsp of aquarium salt per 5 gallons). Get 1 male for 2 females. So in your 10 gal you could get 1 male and 2 female gupies and 1 male and 2 female platies. And they will easily breed for you.

You don't have enough room for anymore fish. You don't have enough room now for the fish you have. If you want to breed goldfish and allow for the additional fish, you are going to need about a 60-75 gallon tank minimum. Goldfish need a minimum of 10 gallons of water per fish. As it is, you should have a 20 gallon tank minumum and this is only if your comets are 3 inches each or less. If they are 4-6 inches, you need a minumum of a 40 gallon tank, and again, this is only for the two fish and doesn't include any fry. This is for the health of the goldfish. If you do not provide them with healthy conditions, they will die. Furthermore, breeding goldfish is difficult. It is extremely difficult determining the sex of goldfish and, even if you know for a fact that you have a male and a female, quite frankly, you can't force them to mate. They either do or don't. We really don't need more animals in this world anyway. Leave the breeding to the professionals and just enjoy the fish that you have. Comet goldfish probably cannot breed in only a 10 gallon tank.
You need at least a 30 gallon tank.

10 gallon tank is a bit too small for comets, i would say a 20 gallon would do

you can tell weather the comets are boy or girl by looking at them, if the comet have white dots on its gills then its a boy! if the comet looks fat from up above then its a girl! a more easyer way to tell its gender is by looking at their behavior... if one of your comet is chasing the other the the one chasing is a boy the one thats swimming away is a girl.

your fish tank cant have rocks and your filter must weak so it wont suck up your frys or eggs (that means your filter can only suck up 10-20 gallon per hour) and your tank must have plenty of fake plants for the eggs to stick on

if you want to breed them you have to leave them alone in your 10 gal tank. set your water heater to 70 degrees for about a week or so and slowly heat it up to 75 degrees in a period of days. by then you will see them chasing eachother (if their not chasing then the comet are both the same gender) sooner or later your fish will lay eggs, the father will spray its (sperm) on the eggs and so.... after its finished laying eggs the mother will eat the eggs so remove both the fishes AFTER its finished doing its stuff.
now you need to take care of the eggs. set your water heater to 70 degrees and about 3 days your eggs will hatch. make sure the eggs dont have fungus on it, if it does remove if so the fungus dont spread onto other eggs. DONT FEED the frys because they need to finish eating the yolk. when they finish eathing the yolk you can feed them well crushed goldfish flakes and hard boiled chicken egg yolk also crushed into powder GOOD LUCK

note: DO NOT DESTURB THE COMETS WHILE THEY ARE CHASING EACH OTHER OR THEY MAY NOT SPAWN

THE ONLY TIME YOU CAN DESTURB THEM IS WHEN YOU ARE FEEDING THEM OR DOING A 10% WATER CHANGE
