The Irish had nothing to do with 9/11 and as for the so called Irish American's(whatever they are) for supporting the IRA--how sad.
The catholics and protestants in Northern Ireland(southern Ireland is nothing to do with the UK) have been at each other for many years, on the other hand the IRA behaved like terrorists, killing both English and Irish. It seems alot of people that live outside Ireland/Britain are pretty clueless to the cause of the IRA .
Don't be fooled into thinking that all Irish people in Northern Ireland don't want to be a part of Britain.

I am a Canadian of partly Irish descent. I really don't know what the IRA has to do with 9-11. They practised terror in the past, and have renounced it, and have been long enough without it to show their sincerity.
While I never would have justified the Irish violence, when you look at the long history of despicable treatment they had at the hands of the English, with religion often used as a justification, I can understand their perennial hatred for the English and for Protestants (I am more English than Irish, and am a Protestant Evangelical).
High officials made comments about them saying there was no difference between an Irishman and a beast of the fields, so there was nothing wrong in taking their land and giving it to English landlords. Sounds like the justification for the enslavement of Africans, doesn't it?
So there is a basis for anger, they felt they were working to free their land from long domination. I could give lots of arguments on the English and Irish Protestant side, but you surely know those already.
But please don't link the IRA to Islamic terrorism.
(Buy the way I don't consider armed groups fighting within Iraq to be terrorists. That is civil war.)
