Dwyane Wade has the TORCH.... He's the newly crowned KING of the NBA & the world's best player...... After last years finals Shaq passed the TORCH(Finals MVP) to Dwyane Wade!....Yeah, the moment Shaq passed that finals mvp award is the moment when the torch got passed. It's D-Wade's ERA & he's the new KING!!!!...and after the finals he'a accomplished things that greats like Magic or Bird haven't.....Achieving Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year..if you discredit that or not, that's still huge....because only five nba players that ever played can say they achieved that..

Wade has one championship under his belt. If he wins another one, I might be willing to concede he has the torch. I don't think there is a clear torch carrier right now. If the Suns win the whole thing this year, I would think that torch would have to belong to Steve Nash.

that's a bit of a premature conclusion. he is arguably the best at his position and he has won a championship. but carrying the torch....i wouldn't go that far.
the league has marketed lebron to be the one who carries 'the torch'...but he hasnt won anything yet .
if u go by winning while still being in their prime, duncan has 3 rings. but he doesn't have the personality to or wants to carry the torch.
and while magic or bird didnt win SI's sportman of the year, they did define a decade of basketball who not only were great players but were on all-time great teams. (and do a search for previous SI issues in 1989. look for the cover of magic,montana and gretzky...'they dominated the 1980's)
for wade to reach that status, he's first going to have to win as many or more titles than duncan so that this first decade of the new millenium will be remembered as his era.
