No it's not wrong. I cut myself but ONLY in times of stress, anxiety, hurt or sadness but i also love my life. But most people miss the point of why people cut and for the majority of people who do it, it's not a way of getting attention (I always wear long sleeve tops and have never discussed it to anybody close to me) or a want of suicide. It's because the extreme emotion you are feeling is too overwhelming and the only way to release yourself of that burden is to cut through the flesh and feel the sense of relief.
I have found it to be like an addiction and so now everytime i get stressed or upset it's like a need and you feel so pathetic but you know its the only way you can cope and pull yourself together.
I suppose its no different to those people who reach for alcohol or drugs when they get stressed or upset. that's their coping mechanism and this is mine.
I'd like to state that i am not suggesting that people should start cutting as a coping mechanism. I think the best option for anyone with emotional distress is to fix the problem with medical help and proffesional advice before it spirals out of control.

You *are* getting high off it. Someone said earlier it gives you an adrenalin rush, this is correct. Just re-read what you said: "it's wonderful for getting yourslef to concentrate." You get the same rush when you get into a car accident, adrenalin helps keep things clear when you're dealing with too much information and event. Cutting is just a small scale version of that.
There are a lot better ways of turning off the world, ways where you don't hurt youself. Headphones with a *small* selection of my favorites (i.e. repetitive) helps me concentrate and doesn't involve adrenalin at all....

I always thought that cutting is basically causing a surrogate pain. Like the mental anguish is so deep that the person desires physical pain to ease the mental. Someone going through that much emotional pain probably has good reason why they feel like they do. Therefore, I won't say it's right or wrong but rather I feel it's dangerous to hurt yourself on purpose. It might lead to a life-endandering act sometime.

These other people that answered your questions are full of ****.
Life has it's ups and downs. & That first person that answered, God isn't real, so get over it and find yourself a new security blanket.
Cutting yourself, I would try to find something else. Like watching the sunset. I know that makes me concentrate. After I watch the sunset / sunup I write. It takes a lot to make me write, but a nice sunset does the trick.
But that wasn't your question.
I would stop cutting if I was you, your friends will see it, and they will be worried. Plus, what if it doesn't work one time? Will that make you cut more? Cut deeper? Cut somewhere else?
Try something else.
Reading poetry,
Watching sunsets,
Sewing. Anything.
Even going for a walk.

no I don't think their is any good reason to hurt yourself. Believe it or not you are getting high. It's the adrenaline rush that helps you to focus. It's also addictive like anything else like drinking, or drugs. try exercising instead. It gets your heart going the same way. But no matter what I think you should go talk to someone perfessionally. when I was a teenager I cut myself too. It was because I felt numb all the time and doing that helped me feel SOMETHING. I got the help I needed. Please do the same.

I can't give my opinion, but people who do cut themselves are still people. They could be going through something really bad. So don't look at them any different than you would your friends. For those who do, you don't need to even if you don't want to talk to someone you could write it down, punch a pillow, or something, but don't ruin your perfect skin over some selfish people that just want attention.

It's very wrong. I know the way the world works is through diversity and so I suppose all kinds of things must exist for there to be some good ones. But in this case cutting yourself just happens to be one of the bad ones. Please stop.

Yes I think it's wrong......how can cutting your body be alright ? Our bodies are fantasticly made why would you want to abuse or harm it? Perhaps when you grow older you will come to appreciate your body and it's many and varied functions and will possibly regret the harm you will undoubtedly do to it if you continue to cut it......
