When I hang out with my old group of friends, they are influenced to do well in school because of their parents and their dreams of going to a nice college, and having a beneficial life. When I hang out with them, I feel like that to. I want to improve and they motivate me to do better.

But, when I hang out with my other, newer, best friend. I don't really care about school or life. I just want to go to college / graduate and do whatever I want. When I am with this best friend I don't care about tests, or grades. I just don't give a ****.

Why? Human nature.
Why? Friends influence.
Which one is better in the long run? Depends which life course you decide to take.

Human beings are social animals, and they have the urge to conform. This is a primal human instinct - to imitate and conform. ("monkey see, monkey do") It's sad, but true - we still have the reptilian or primitive brain that controls our sub-conscious mind and emotions and primal instincts.

So, if most of your friends (80-90% of all your friends) get C's and D's, most likely, you will get C's and D's, in your desire to conform to the group.

And, if your friends get A's and B's, most likely, you will also get A's and B's.

They also say that birds of a feather flock together. You will be most likely attracted to a group that your intelligence/grade level closely resembles. So, if you are a C student, most likely, you will hang out with other C students. And if you're an A student, most likely, you will hang out with other A students.

This is the norm. But there are exceptions to the rule. Human beings also have free will, or the freedom to choose his destiny. So, if you are a C student, and want to get A's, you could try to get along with A students, and with their help and your own efforts, you can become an A student also. The opposite is possible also.

I think your friends do reflect on your grades. Sometimes they want you to prove that you're really their friend so you start to do bad thing, like your grades. So don't let them fools get to you. If they were really your friend they would accept you for you and nothing more or less, but let's face it this is the real world. People out here are grimy!
