The anatomy book was "Gray's Anatomy," named after its author, Henry Gray. The title of "Grey's Anatomy" is simply a takeoff on the name of the original anatomy book, with the 'a' in "Gray" being changed to an 'e.' However, you are probably one of the few people well-read enough to make this connection.

It is named after Meredith Grey, but as a play on words. The anatomy book is
"Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body"
Different spelling of (Gray/Grey) so technically it is named after Meredith but only as a play on words!
But yes it does get annoying that nobody seems to know what the hell i'm talking about when I say if she were to die off the show the title would still work for the show.

I think that is the whole point of the name. Its a very well-known medical book, but it is also named that because the main character is Meredith Grey.
I, personally, wouldn't mind if Meredith did died. I can't STAND her!!! She is so whiny and mousy and ghetto (okay, in real life she's ghetto, not so much on the show). I think the show would be way better if she did died, that way we could focus on the other characters, ALL who of which are WAY more interesting than her...but...I don't think there is anyway she is going to die. It seems that people actually do like her, so this is their way of making sure everyone watches the last few episodes of this season...

The show is named after her. She is the Grey in "Grey's Anatomy". The show is about what makes her up. Her anatomy. It has nothing to do with the book "Gray's Anatomy". It is an pun and a metaphor. Of course she can die but not permanently or you would have to change the title of the show. On their pod cast the authors joked that they may just call the show "Anatomy". But you are the one who is wrong here. they killed Meredith to allow her to talk to Ellis, her mother and tell her how much she loves her. Of course, that means Ellis must die too. The dfference is Meredith will come back to life and Ellis will not. But you can not kill the titled character unless you want to kill the series. That much is for certain.

I don't know. I think that the title and the fact that Meredith's last name is Grey is pure coincidence. The reason why the show is called Grey's Anatomy is because it is the name of a medical tome that all medical students use.

Gray's Anatomy is the way the book is spelled! Grey is Meredith's name. It is word play to use the homophone but the show is named after her!
