It isn't illegal...just like the trash mail and credit card offers you keep getting in your "snail mail"...(If they'd give me a penny for each piece piece of mail they send, I could pay off my car!) The best and only way to *reduce* (but you'll never eliminate) spam is to get a new and secret email address, guard its identity carefully (never give it away by using it to sign up for services, bulletin boards, etc.) and remember that you should never put anything into an email that you wouldn't be willing to have posted on a public billboard (so send your emails anonymously?)

Yes, spam is illegal. But "unsubscribing" to spam is REALLY dumb. Every time you do that, that increases the spam. The spammers now have your actual email address and know there is a live person at that address. You CANNOT get rid of spam by unsubscribing. You can only get rid of spam by clicking on the Spam button and by not opening and reading the crappy junk. Yahoo has the best anti-spam program going. All other email services have to add spam control, and they are not as good, believe me.

Yes, spamming is illegal but is often impossible to enforce.

By responding to spam you are telling them your email address is valid. They will then send you more spam. It like you have sent them a request to please send you more spam.

Change your email address.
Get the email address with a provider that has better spam filters (Yahoo, Gmail) or install your own spam filters.

Never post your email address on the internet.

Don't allow anyone to use your email account. They should get their own accounts.

Use disposable addresses for questionable sites. (Free offers, sites that require your email address to read, and other garbage sites.)

yes spam is illegal. Do no open them. Delete them immediately. Opening them causes the spammer to know you are receiving them and causes them to get your email address out to others.
