The "Blue" states rank as the richest states in the country, with better rated schools, social programs, and health care.

Should these "Blue" states pay more in taxes in order to re-distribitute their wealth to the poorer "Red" states with the goal of eqallity in outcomes for both "Blue" and "Red" states?

Of are the rich "Blue" states just "greedy" for wanting to keep more of thie money in their state?

Sure, Blue states already pay more, but it isn't enough to resolve the income difference.

Would higher taxes on the wealthy states fix the problems in the "Red" states, or are the "Blue" ststes just greedy for wanting to keep their own money?

Chuck Schumer said to Ben Bernanke on Feb 15:

"Doesn't it make sense, if this goes too far, to have a more progressive tax code, even though government didn't cause it, to keep a middle-class base, to keep too much wealth from agglomerating at the top?

I'm not asking you any specific policy, but just the general view that wouldn't progressivity -- further progressivity in the tax code help be an antidote to the natural flow of money to the very top, to the few who create those new ideas and deserve to make money from that and not get in the way of doing that? "

Clearly the wealth is gravitating to the rich blue states. If you believe in income redistribution, shouldn't you also believe that wealthier states pay more in taxes?

I'm disappointed in the Liberals answers. If they believe that wealth distribution works, as comments from Chuck Schumer prove, then they should DEMAND that they pay higher taxes to help bring the Red states to their level.

I guess they believe in welfare distribution only when thay are the ones getting other people's money.

The blue states do pay extra in taxes and the crimson states get carry of extra. there have been 2 classes of interior of sight taxation. From the top of the Civil conflict to the recent Deal, the south paid to the north in this way of conflict reparations. whilst FDR have been given elected, the north began paying the south and its been like that ever considering that - it relatively is a substantial defining function of the "New Deal." Its form of ironic now thinking who will pay the taxes and who's against the taxes. yet i think of lots of the wealth/income disparity is relative to inflationary rules and price of residing discrepencies. i will stay a similar way of life in FL as CA, it basically expenses 0.5 as lots in the crimson state. If decrease income basically potential decrease taxes and decrease very own loan/coverage/food expenses, what's the drawback?

How very socialist of you, redistribution of wealth, really? What a Liberal oh I mean socialist idea.

If we were to insist upon the rich paying more taxes so there hard earned dollars could be distributed to the poor whats there incentive to continue business? Or invest and reinvest in the US economy? Bill Gates is despised by thousands, why? Because he's rich? He employs tens of thousands of families world wide, his "greediness" has put food on hundreds of thousands if not MILLIONS of dinner tables year after year after year since the 1970's. He did that because America isn't going to take half his money and give it to people who won't lift a finger for a nickle. HIS "greediness" built the Internet we're using to discuss this issue, programed the very computers you, me and everyone reading this are using as they read it. America NOT taking from the rich and giving to the poor inspired people like Carnegie, Ford, Vanderbilt, and countless others that made us the richest nation in the world, has employed hundreds of BILLIONS of people worldwide throughout the history of our country. WHY in gods name, would anyone dream of changing that???????

I think that there should be a flat tax for everyone. No more of this percentage of what you make. It is not really fair to people who have to work hard just to scrape by. I work two jobs just to pay all my bills that include helping out some of my less fortunate family member in New Orleans and now I get a tax bill this year for $1200 over what I have already paid. It is insane!!!!!! I had to get a thrid job just to pay my taxes and I am sure that will mess me up for next year to start it all over again.

I live in Connecticut a very very bllluuueee state and we pay a lot more in taxes than any red state. socialist engineering is very expensive so we all can "benefit" from the government's "wisdom"

That sounds like a great idea! When do we get to vote on that one? What about a special tax also for people who live in Hollywood who are so far out of touch with reality that they say the stupidist things?

How socialist of you. If we all pay federal taxes and residents of blue states earn more than residents of red states then the blue states are paying more into the national system than red states. Your question is moot.

They already DO pay more taxes. Do a little research before spouting cr*p that you don't have any idea about in the first place!

No, since the red states use up more of the welfare funds, the red states should pay more in taxes.

No. That dumb. I live in Florida and I wouldn't ask anybody to pay more, I'd say all of us pay the same.
