Starvation or Cannabalism?

I see no reason to fight the survival instinct. If there is no other option than to eat one's companion(s) or die, I say bon appétit. It would not be logical for everyone to die when at least some could survive.

There was just a show on the history channel about sailors who turned to cannibals. they said after not eating for so long, your body starts to shut down non-vital organs, than vital organs, then parts of your brain you don't need until all you're really functioning on is a very small part of your brain and your heart. the parts of your brain that shut down include the parts that give you reason and rational thought. so when those shut down, you're much more likely to not care about eating someone else, because you have lost the ability to think rationally.

Ever hear about the Donner Party in the 1800's? They were migrating west and got caught in a snow storm. They had to eat their dead in order to survive. You do what you have to do to survive. Me personally? I'd rather be someone else's food than to eat someone else. I am not afraid to die, so if it came to that, I'd rather die of starvation.

I would eat my companion if they died first I'd want them to eat me if I died first. I hope I'd be brave enough to die for my children. If I were alone and had the nerve and painkiller I might even eat my own left arm for survival. It is a strong instinct.
