Funny..all this negative talk about magic(k) ..
Before there was astronomy there was astrology and it seemed to work well for them then..of course then it became science.
Before there was real science there was herbal mixing of things that worked...then this became known as Medicine(hello science!) yet people believed in it and it helped them then.
Now the situation is manipulating energy whether it be by spellcasting, directing and manipulating energy or letting some (asking in prayer or chanting) other outside source(cosmos, God, gods/goddesses, entities etc) . Just because its not listed as "proven science" it becomes a fallacy with most people just because we are not adept that that point that we can "scientifically" explain it or always reproduce the cause and effects.
I say to those to get a life...get real...study your ancient history. Yes a lot of it was myth but there was quite a lot of truth to it too.
Anyways...
here are the books i read when i first started...
Spiral Dance by StarHawk
Any books by Scott cunningham, Raymond Buckland and Gerald Gardner. These are all within the different realms of Wicca.
These are some of my other influences..
Modern Magick by Donald Michael Kraig (this one teaches you about different forms of magick)
Any books by Raven Grimassi( this is about italian magick called Strega)
I say take your time and learn what you can. Just make sure you understand that you need to take responsibility for whatever you do in everything you do.

It's all about the power and belief behind the forces of whatever your trying to create. Scientifically, it's in that paranormal range, where some belive, some have no view on it, and since it's not explainable by science...some just dismiss the notion. You have to have an open mind, remember that science, at least along logical lines, doesen't prove God exists either...however it also dosen't disprove it. Same with magick, science can't prove it, but they can't disprove it either.
People have Auras...well, years ago scientist said that was a load of BS! Now they have proven that there really is a unique array of energy given off by the human body.
Again it's all about belief and the willpower placed behind that belief. Would a rational person say God exists..even with all this pain and suffering in the world, no. Yet, millions believe in him neway.
Same with magic , occult, ghosts...science even admits the evidence is there but it's unclassifiable as to how it happens, so most, as is the human way, just dismiss it, being too lazy to actually research and explore it for themselves. Blessed be all.

OK so 2 parts to this question. 1) I believe that there are other worlds that have life on. Our galaxy alone is GIGANTIC! How can we be the only planet with life on it? Then once you get outside the galaxy, there is the rest of the universe. 2) Magic is many things. The most common and more stereotypical form of it exists in many "cult" religions, Wicca for example, but it is usually spelled "magik" or "magick". It all basically boils down to the same thing. Drawing on the natural energies released from the earth and yourself, harnessing them and swaying the normal routine slightly. It is very hard stuff to figure out and, as with everything, some people can do it easier than others. I believe, I practice (or try to) and I know people that do it without realizing. lovelove Danae Bless You!...Curse You?

Magic as in the powers of illusion or healing medicine or such are real enough. But magick (with a "k") as in the control of supernatural powers and energy, wizard-Harry-Potter-style, is an occult belief. I must admit that I am not even religious. I am atheist. And therefore, I have a steadfast, deductive siding with the evermore growing basis of scientific reasoning. Magick belongs with the ghosts: in the fairy tales. Only people of cults or minor religion believe in this phenomenon. There is not ONE shred of proof supporting this belief. Proof for science, you say? It's simple. The Universe. Science is analytically and deductively correct, and explains things with strong bases and correlation with the explanation of other phenomena. The sites "explaining" magick were created by people who either need to be retained in asylum or need to GET A LIFE. Really. Magick is not real. Don't listen to those who say it is, because either they are lying, or crazy. If you really want to find information on magick, go read fantasies, because that's the only place where it ever will be.

Yes, of course.
There are many books on magic and there are many types of magic. Herbalist, alchemist, illusionist, prestidigitator...etc
All magic requires you to believe and the ability to control energy.

There is white magic (in which people use to help others with) and black magic (in which people use for their own personal gain). I believe that they both do exist.
Where you can get more info? That, I don't know.
You could try a local Wican shop or the internet (but be careful about what they tell you on the internet).

Have some fun, research the symbols on the US Dollar Bill and US National Seal.
How else can you exchange goods for a rectangular piece of cloth with some ink on it? Just because someone (gov) says you can!

Magic is a myth. There is not one shred of Scientific evidence that there is a system that can operate outside the laws of physics. IF there IS a system that can... it's not magic... it's science.
