It wouldn't allow access to the internet or other programs when I clicked on its icon. Well, I was playing around and hit the systems recovery, it erased all of my info off my computer. It started everything over as if I had just bought it. I had downloaded music and documents that I needed. Is there anyway that I can get this info back. What did I do wrong? What should I do in the future?

Chalk this one up as a learning experience.

There should have been a few prompts on the system recovery program that said something to the effect of "Warning, This will erase all of your stored information". Always keep an eye out for that sort of warning.

There are options of recovering the data, but that depends on what the data is worth to you.

I will say right now that the less you use the computer right now, the better chance you will have of recovering that lost data.

When a computer formats a drive, it basically just overwrites the first few bits of data telling the computer that the drive is empty. The data is still there, but the computer sees it as free space.

There are tools that can recover the data, your best bet would be to take it to a service center to attempt a data recovery. But keep in mind that this will run you at least a hundred bucks, maybe more depending on where you are.

Is this data worth $100+?

"What should I do in the future?"

Let's get this one of the way first. You should definitely NOT play around with things on your computer that you have no idea of anymore!

Okay, now that's out of the way, go ahead and check your harddisk. Go to My Computer > C:\, click on it ONCE and see if everything is still there. If your computer is pretty empty in used space then there's nothing we can do to recover those lost files back...

If not, it's better to just let those files go because programs that let you crack open the hidden portion of the harddrive may cost around USD$90...

shut down the PC. start it back up and before the windows logo comes up push and hold F8. go into safe mode. it should prompt you if you want to use system restore. choose yes and pick a restore point close to when your PC was how you wanted it.
keep trying restore points they are all different

Try going to restore and put the date in prior to when it got erased. Don't know if it will work, but it might. Good luck.
