Every time I try to shower I almost slip and fall. It is the only shower/tub I have in my apartment and the landlords are really cheap and I know they aren't going to want to pay the costs to repair or replace the bathtub since I think it will be costly. I just moved into this place and don't want to start off on the wrong foot with my landlords. But I hate the old 50's tub/show in the apartment. When I rented the place the tub looked okay but then I took my first shower there and it is definitely uneven that it almost buckles at the bottom of the tub making it hard to stand there. I'm stuck in a year lease so moving out is out of the question. The apartment is great but the shower/tub is the only setback I am having! What should I do?

You can get some rubber things that stick down in the bottom of a tub. They are made for the purpose of preventing slips.

Most places now use the fiberglass tubs, and these have really flimsy bottoms. The space under them should be filled in, but many don't do that. Your landlord probably won't replace it unless it breaks, so your stuck with what you have.
You can always add a bath mat to reduce slipping in the tub. These are pretty cheap and can be obtained at your local Walmart or Taget store.

If its an old cast iron tub its slanted so the water will drain. If it bothers you so much you can go to a paint store and find an epoxy coating to brighten it up but I must tell you its an involved process and you have to wear a respirator when doing this. I agree with the other answer of getting a non slip shower pad .

Look at your lease, see if there is a part stating whether or not it is the landlord's duty to keep your appliances in tact. If so, show him what the lease says, or you could show your lease and problem to your Appt. Manager, or maintence manager, if not take you lease to your attorney and explain.

send your request in writing to your landlord via a certified letter..it sounds like this is a safety hazard..you can tell them that in the letter..ask them if they are willing to cut your rent so you can get it fixed yourself..if they still don't do anything..then this it is cause for you to legally break your lease...
