Well, my boyfriend and I have stayed at Disney's Polynesian Resort the past two summers. We've already booked another stay there for this summer, and I don't think I ever want to stay at any of the other Resorts. Disney's Polynesian Resort is perfect! Someone mentioned that Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is better because it is newer. Well, yes, Disney's Polynesian Resort is older. It is an original! It opened when Walt Disney World officially opened on October 1, 1971, along with Disney's Contemporary Resort. However, it's obviously been updated since then. In fact, it's most recent refurbishment was completed not too long ago. All of the rooms have new furniture, light fixtures, bedding, large flat screen TVs, etc. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous, as is the entire Resort! Many of the rooms offer wonderful views of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort, Cinderella Castle, Space Mountain, and Disney's Contemporary Resort across the Seven Seas Lagoon. The best part of our vacations were coming back to our rooms late in the evening, sitting out on our patio, enjoying the warmth and the beautiful view, everything all lit up, and listening to the sounds of the ferries and boats transporting Guests between the Resorts and the Magic Kingdom, and the howl of the stone dog outside of the Haunted Mansion (yes, you can here it all the way across the Lagoon). You can watch the fireworks right from your room and patio, too, and the Electrical Water Pageant. The Resort has a wonderful white-sand beach with palm trees and hammocks. There's two awesome pools. The Nanea Volcano Pool with a waterslide and bathrooms right inside the volcano! There's the "Quiet Pool", too, which is just a large circular pool. The Resort is home to three fabulous restaurants. The Kona Cafe is my favorite! We always eat there two or three times during our stay. The "Tonga Toast" at breakfast is delicous, and the potstickers and the Kilauea torte at lunch and dinner are amazing! 'Ohana offers an all-you-care-to-eat Character breakfast. They serve dinner as well without the Characters. Captain Cook's Snack Company is the quick-service restaurant at the Resort. Since the refurbishment computers have been installed to take orders. Guests pick out which items they'd like, but there are people in the back making the food. There's also the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show (Polynesian Luau) at Luau Cove. It's a lot of fun and the meal is all-you-care-to-eat. The Resort has an arcade, Moana Mickey's, and at the Mikala Canoe Club you can rent a personal watercraft or set out on a guided fishing excursion. And you just can't beat the transportation options at Disney's Polynesian Resort! Not only can you take a bus anywhere on property, you can take a boat or ferry to the Magic Kingdom and nearby Resorts. There's the ever-reliable Monorail that picks Guests up right at the lobby and whisks them away to nearby Resorts and the Magic Kingdom. There's also a short walkway to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa if you'd like to go out to a nice, romantic dinner at one of the restaurants there or if you'd like to get a massage or other treatment at the Spa, and there's a walkway to the Transportation and Ticket Center where you board the Monorail to EPCOT.
Oh, and did I mention the staff is beyond amazing! When we arrived this past summer we were notified by the Manager that were V.I.P. during our entire stay and were upgraded to a room in the Concierge Longhouse. It was incredible! And we were showered with gift baskets and other treats during our whole stay.
Another thing, Disney's Polynesian Resort has the highest Guest return rate of all the Resorts at Walt Disney World. It seems everyone who stays at Disney's Polynesian Resort loves it and many of them return to the Resort year after year. I can't wait to be back! Only 147 days!
My little sister has stayed at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge (she's nine). She enjoyed it a lot, having the savannah view, but she said she'd rather stay at the Resort I got to stay at (so we may be bringing her with us this summer). The savannah view's nice, but you can see the same thing on the Kilimanjaro Safaris ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park.
This website has all sorts of information about Disney's Polynesian Resort, and there's a lot of wonderful pictures...

Jennifer, As the old knight in the Indiana Jones movie said, "You have chosen wisely." The Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Polynesian Resort are the best resorts at Disney World for families with children. I prefer the Polynesian Resort for families that will be trying to get back to the resort for rest. The bus to the Animal Kingdom will take lots of extra time away from rest and touring. Also the rooms at the Polynesian are some of the largest on the property. There are two queen beds and a day bed in each standard room. The rooms are significantly larger than those in the Animal Kingdom. Transportation - the Polynesian is vastly better for transportation to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot than the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The bus service is pretty comparable between the two. If seeing animals is important to your family choose the Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you want more room and convenient transportation choose the Polynesian Resort.

Oh the Polynesian! We stay there every other Christmas. It is on the Monorail so it is extremely convenient. You can walk to the Transportation and Ticket center, so you can get to Epcot rather easily. Animal Kingdom is very far from the other resorts. If you are traveling with small children it is best to stay on the Monorail. This way you can keep them in the stroller between Epcot and the Magic Kingdom if they have fallen asleep. You can also travel by boat between the International Gateway at Epcot to MGM without folding the stroller. If you are traveling without children I would still recommend the Polynesian. The Luau is fantastic and the hotel itself is like staying in paradise.
I simply feel that the Animal Kingdom Lodge is too far from the action.
I really hope this helps and I hope you have a wonderful time.
Oh check out this web-site. It will really help you with your decision.

I stay at Polynesian all the time, probably the one resort I stay at the most. I also love Animal Kingdom.
Benefits of Animal Kingdom is that it is less expensive than Polynesian and if you love animals, the savannah view is amazing.
Downsides to Animal Kingdom: If you don't plan to do the savannah view, the view really isn't that great. You just get the benefits of a deluxe resort, but it is still great. It sits further out in respect to the other parks, you are closest to Animal Kingdom, so your travel time is a little longer. Also, your only transportation is the bus.
Benefits of Polynesian: The resort is beautiful! The biggest benefit though is the transportation with the buses, monorail and boat. So you are able to get around a lot easier and a lot quicker than at Animal Kingdom.
Downside: You are probably looking to spend a little more than Animal Kingdom. If you want better transportation though, I think it is well worth it to stay at Polynesian.
I love both resorts, so it just depends which one fits into your budget better and which offers the most for you.
Have a great time!

Clients I have sent there have said by far do the Animal Kingdom, but you need to stay in a Savannah view room. The Polynesian tends to be a better choice for adults only. Of course it isn't adults only, just seems to gear less to kids over other resorts.
Farther out that you book, the better price you will get. Availability goes.
Have Fun!

Animal Kingdom is newer, has the most comfortable beds on disney property and has a great buffett restaurant called Boma's.
The Polynesian is more expensive but more convenient to everything, located on the monorail but is older.

Polynesian for numerous reasons.
1. the theming. its so relaxing and a tropical like getaway.
2. the location. you can flippin' look out your window and see Cinderella's Castle and watch the fireworks.
3. Transportation- don't you love how you can just hop on a monorail and be at the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT if you switch monorail.
I mean looking out your window at Animals may be nice and all... but I'd rather be looking at Cinderella's Castle and be watching freworls, and just hopping on a monorail for easy transportation.
