As SURAJ's list suggests, there are literally SCORES of colleges in the U.S. that are good for majoring in dance; well over 100 for really good ones and probably hundreds that are decent. But NO ONE can create a list of the best college dance programs, as the best program for you depends on what you want to do in the dance field after college. Are you especially interested in performing, teaching or choreography? Do you prefer ballet, modern, jazz or theater dance? Or do you want a program where you can be diversely trained without being forced to specialize?
The Dance Magazine College Guide (sold wherever Dance Magazine is sold) is a good place to begin to narrow your search in finding the right program to meet you needs. However, since there are a few, noteworthy programs that may not be listed there, you should use other sources of information as well, along with a careful examination of all the programs' web sites that you're interested in. Most importantly, you will need to visit the colleges while they are in session in order to find the program that is right for you. Start with the colleges that are closer to you. Observe classes, see performances and even try to take a class with the students if you're in 11th grade. It is never too early to start visiting; don't put this off until your senior year of high school!
Here is a partial and slightly biased* list of some of the top college danced programs (although most dance professionals will agree about most of these):
Arizona State University (asu.edu)
Butler University (butler.edu)
Florida State University (dance.fsu.edu)
Indiana University (indiana.edu)
Juilliard School (juilliard.edu)
Marymount Manhattan College (mmm.edu)
NYU, Tisch School of the Arts (tisch.nyu.edu)
North Carolina School of the Arts (ncarts.edu)
Ohio State University (osu.edu)
Point Park University (pointpark.edu)
Southern Methodist University (smu.edu)
SUNY, Purchase (purchase.edu)
Temple University (temple.edu)
Texas Christian University (dance.tcu.edu)
University of Arizona (arizona.edu)
University of Kansas (arts.ku.edu)
University of Michigan (umich.edu)
University of Oklahoma (ou.edu)
University of South Florida (usf.edu)
University of Utah (utah.edu)
University of the Arts (uarts.edu)
*[Note that I said "biased," so please don't give me a thumbs down if your favorite school is not on this list!]

Hi, minican 2001
Dance is not my major, so I only have heard of dance colleges but I'm not an expert. I have heard that Julliard School is good. I've heard that University of Hawaii at Manoa has a good dance dept (but double-check that info). What I'd suggest doing is something similar to what I did selecting schools in my major: find out about a few famous dancers (currect or recent). See where did they get their education from. Then go to those schools' webpages, inqure specifically about those schools if they are in general a good school to go to and if they teach what you want to learn. Every famoust school you pick or every large state school you pick would probably have a dance department. My school has it too, but I don't think it is good of famous. A lot of people get a dance minor here, but not that many major in dance in my school and those who do become researchers about dance not dancers.

I go to Point Park University as a dance major, and it is certainly challenging. It shows you how hard and rigorous a career in dance can be. Auditions are competitive, but the people are great. You should definitely apply.

All of the above-listed plus Brigham Young University. You don't have to be Mormon to attend. I'm a professional dancer (not Mormon) who's attended summer programs there many times, they have excellent programs.
