If you are using the same computer that you use on your old iPod for your new iPod, YES, you can. iTunes will think you just purchased a new iPod to add to your "collection".
In my opinion, if you are going to be paying for an 8GB iPod Nano, you can purchase the 30GB iPod (video). They are both iPods, but one holds more, plays video & games and cost the same. Plus, you can get the 30GB in black as well...
Seems so stupid that Apple would do this...

Kind of the same thing:
I just bought my 80gb iPod and wanted all of the music my brother had on his iPod. There is a program called Tune Tools for iPod and it lets you backup your iPod, transfer music from iPod to computer or iPod to iPod directly, rename music files, etc...it's only like $20 for this program at Best Buy or CompUSA or places like that, and well worth it.

Yes there is a way to put your music on your hard drive then load it into iTunes so you can put it on your new ipod. For instructions on how to to this go to http://www.ipod-vibez.com/howto.html and see the section at the top of the page bout saving to ipod to hard drive. You can also go to http://www.ipod-vibez.com for a list of good ipod download sites you can use to get ipod downloads

yes it is very simple, when you get your new one simply put it into the computer and the songs will go on to your new ipod by itself.
hope this helps =)
