My personal definitions:

Spotting: slight bleeding outside of the scheduled cycle that requires a liner anywhere from a few hours to two days

Light period: bleeding that occurs during the scheduled cycle that is lighter than normal. The bleeding reqires more than a liner - such as a light pad or light tampon - but nothing as serious as regular or heavy absorption weights

spotting is technically only a little breakthrough blood and should be one spot only once or twice a day. A light period is only a little blood like spotting but lasts longer and is constant or very frequent

U KNOW I'M NOT REALLY SURE, HOWEVER, I DON'T THINK SPOTTING IS A NORMAL ASPECT IN PERIODS. U MIGHT WANNA CHECK WITH A DOCTOR OR EVEN JUST DO A GOOGLE AND SEE WHAT COME UP, BUT DON'T WORRY OK! AND A LIGHT PERIOD IS JUST THAT U WON'T HAVE A HEAVY FLOW, IT'S LIGHT.
