Sometimes when cold i have a job to start it .I have had the deisel system checked a none return valve fitted and its been on a laptop to find the fault with no joy is there a relay or control box for the glow plugs if so where can i find it.THANKES

Freelander diesels have two fuel pumps. Did the mechanic check both pumps or was only one fuel pump checked and declared working.
NB ... if its an older freelander has the battery been replace by a cheaper battery suitable for only a petrol engine? Diesels need a bigger battery.

most diesels have Heater Plug Control box's, to locate or check it is working switch on the ignition and listen, you will hear a click after the orange light with the coiled spring goes out on the consul, repeat this with the bonnet up and you should find it, if not it is definitely not working and you have found your problem, it's a box about 100 x 50 x 50mm, try putting a jumper lead from the battery + to the Heater Plug Rail for about 30 seconds then remove it whilst an assistant turns the key to start it, if it starts you know the control box is faulty, if not try changing the Heater plugs, also check that the inhibitor wire from the injector pump to the control box is attached.

cold starts are usually a glow plug problem, but you need to wait a few seconds for them to heat up prior to starting. Are you doing this? As to the location of the relay check your owners manual.How cold is it where you park your vehicle? If really cold you may need a block heater?

turn the inj key on wait till the light goes out turn the key on
again wiit till the light goes out again it should start then.
