I had knee surgery 3 weeks ago. I had the cartilidge and bone scraped out. I'm 18 and have been told I'll recovery fatser than older people. Does anyone know when I'll be able to walk? I'm currently going to physical therapy, will that help me recover faster?

You'll probably ditch the crutches within a week. You'll get most of your motion back by 4 weeks. You might be done with PT at this point...maybe longer...Intermittent mild pain and swelling may last around 6 months. Yet, everyone is different. For the most part, you'll be doing most of your normal activities by 8 weeks....perhaps except for running. Therapy will be beneficial for you to learn what exercises you can do to regain your strength and mobility faster (than doing nothing).

It depends on the type of surgery and what the surgery was for/what is done during the surgery. Different knee surgeries have different recovery times. Last year, I significantly tore my meniscus and I had to arthroscopic knee surgery to remove the torn flap. Recovery for that is generally 4-6 weeks. I was on crutches for nolonger than 10 days and then I was back playing in my basketball practices and games 4-4.5 weeks after my surgery. Her surgeon will have the recovery time. Good luck to her with her surgery and recovery!

everyones recovery is different. if you 18 it should take 6 to 8 weeks to heal maybe even longer. my mom didnt walk untill 2 months and didnt run until 3 months. it takes a while for this kind of sugary to heal.

I had the same surgery but they had to actuall cut my knee on both sides to remove the cartilage. It took me about 6 weeks. You need to build up the large front thigh muscle, only one that supports the knee.

Your PT ought to be able to give you a reasonable idea about what to expect.
Work hard at recovery!
Good luck
