There are way too many things that can happen, and way too much things to think about and take care of. One can never be hundred percent sure that one will succeed however accurately one may plan, and howsoever hard one may try; this makes no difference. What makes real difference in the long run is our attitude towards life, and our adherence to right principles in our trying for things we like to achieve.
One important principle is that you try your best in all situations, and under all circumstances, without fail. You give your hundred percent for all you set out to achieve a the first place. You promised yourself that this is how it is going to be, then make sure that it does. In the equation between you and your life, your job is to do your duty excellently well, then it is for life,or the rest of the world, to balance out the equation, or to level both sides of the scale by rewards of your hard work, or of course by all important lessons if you lack in knowledge, judgement, patience or understanding. But if you fall short of your our commitment and, abandon your own initiatives, give up and fail to do just what your were supposed to do, hen life will never forgive you, it will speak to you through your own mind, as beguiling reproaches of your own good conscious. You will blame others, and then you will blame yourself for all the things you could not accomplish, or the things you end up with in the end. But if you play your part as hard as you might, or as well as you could, and that according to your information, knowledge and belief there was nothing that you could do more, then you win or you lose, in either case you will be at perfect peace with yourself, and life indeed will grant you more chances out of her unlimited stores of golden opportunities in the days, month or years to come.

Work hard in what you want.. Yes circumstances will arise to lead you of your path, But adapt and overcome. Anything can be worked out if you (A) work harder at it, look at other ways to overcome the obstacle. and (B) Realize what aspects of your goal you really wish, Like being a singer. If you work hard enough at it, take lessons and demand excellence from those involved in, lets say a Band or a Manager, You may never sell out your local Arena, but can make a good living playing some bars and other venues around your state. Your still living the dream of being a singer.
Hope this analogy helps... Never give up, the other option is what everyone else does..

I think you must work hard to achieve anything in life.
My aunt says that I am blessed with a gift from my grand mother because she was a seamstress and I am quite good at dressmaking. I wish I had known when I was young that I had this gift. I wouldn't have bothered to take all those lessons!

Because one works too hard, at times, to achieve ones goal/s in life, is at times, the very reason they seem unattainable and enevitabley they become unattainable.
Circumstances, can be overcome but "over achieving", is a destroyer.
Be patient and map out your goals;slowly...

Yeah working hard really helps you get what you want, although circumstances can get in the way. If you really want something, you will tackle these circumstances. If you can't then is was not meant to be.

Working hard is not the only key, you have to keep focussed and regard every set back as a challenge to be overcome. work smarter, and persevere. Many people have become overnight successes after 20 years hard graft!

We are all different, all have different strengths and weaknesses. What is hard work for me may be easy for you, and visa versa. It is impossible to predict the outcome of your life, but working hard for something will result in a better outcome than just letting events take place and following their lead.

it's not just about working hard but to keep believing and having the confidence and will to succeed. if you do that, then eventually you will achieve what it is you are striving for in life. don't allow other obstacles, hurdles or potential negative factors to get in the way in the pursuit of your dream

Its not about working harder - its about working smarter. You see, to learn by your own mistakes is to be wise, to learn from others mistakes is wisdom indeed.
Life is full of circumstances, most you will only ever exprence once. However, others have lived before you and pasted through them. Learn from them and it dont have to be hard work.
Thats what books and other communications tools are really about.
