Well, that depends. A tree could be in a forest all alone but a person could be five hundred yards away and still hear when it falls. I don't understand about this being "used by the tough guy crooks to scare someone". I wish you would elaborate on that. Thanks

No one would hear it if there is no one close enough to hear it.
Does it make a sound? Yes.
My interpretation of the definition of sound is that it is a vibration in which humans are CAPABLE of hearing. One could make an argument about what capable means, but the vibration that a tree makes when it falls is capable of being picked up by the human ear. It makes no difference if someone is near enough or not. It is still sound because we are capable of hearing it.
I will say that I dont completely agree with this definition because dogs hear sound, but they can hear sounds that we cannot pick up. But I guess those vibrations aren't considered sound which is pretty silly if you think about it.

Why do we always assume that for perception to exist it must be perceived by a human? Is there NO other life form in the forest? Every organic entity is gone? Doubtful but if that really is what your asking, then is the tree alive?

You are assuming that the tree falls at all. If nobody is around to hear it, nobody would be around to verify that it actually fell. How could you prove that it "fell"? How could you prove that it isn't some kind of Matrix-setup that shows us an erect tree when we look at it on Day 1 and a fallen tree on Day 2?

If there is no one there to hear it. Yes but the falling tree does make the sounds associated with the crash. And yes the refrigerator light does turn off when you shut the door. I used a video camera to confirm it.

Can a tree in a forest be all alone? If it's in a forest wouldn't here be other trees?

There are squirrels and bunnies and stuff there in the forest. They hear it - so it DOES make a sound.
