I do not grip it; is the work sending some messages or is it just upbeat satire, to judge the book by it's cover?

Its satirical, which means it does have a message. He criticizes lots of things in the book, from the government, to society, to the scientific community, and also certain aspects of sexuality. You cannot have satire without sending a message. Every chapter has its own take on certain things, so I can't tell you everything about it, but of course it has a message!

Read it again, Charles Simon, or listen to the book on tape. Or watch a film version of it.

If at first you don't get it, try reading it out loud.
